Sonnet शब्द, Italian शब्द Sonneto से लिया गया है, जिसका अर्थ है- थोड़ा तनाव। सॉनेट कविता का एक रूप है जिसे प्रेम व्यक्त करने के लिए गाया जाता था। 13वीं शताब्दी तक Sonnet, 14 पंक्तियों की एक कविता थी। Petrarchan Sonnet को Italian Sonnet के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। Petrarchan या Italian Sonnet में दो भाग होते हैं, Sonnet का पहला भाग Octave(8 पंक्ति) होता है, जबकि दूसरा भाग Sestet(6 पंक्ति) होता है, इस प्रकार मूल सॉनेट में कुल 14 पंक्तिया है।
कविता में Octave के लिए तुकबंदी योजना abbaabba है और Sestet के लिए तुकबंदी योजना cdecde या cdcdcd है। विलियम शेक्सपियर के सॉनेट्स में चौदह पंक्तियाँ हैं जो तीन चौपाइयों और एक अंतिम तुकबंदी दोहे में विभाजित हैं। इसकी तुकबंदी योजना abbcdedefefgg है।

सॉनेट की उत्पत्ति के संबंध में कोई सटीक जानकारी उपलब्ध नहीं है। सॉनेट मुख्य रूप से प्रसिद्ध इतालवी कवि पेट्रार्क से संबंधित है। 13 वीं शताब्दी में, सॉनेट का आविष्कार प्रसिद्ध कवि नोटरी गियाकोमो दा लेंटिनी ने सिसिली के रोमन सम्राट फ्रेडरिक द्वितीय के दरबार में किया था। 13वीं शताब्दी के अन्य कवियों में दांते अलीघिएरी और पेट्रार्क के नाम भी मिलते हैं। दांते अलीघिएरी ने सॉनेट्स को अच्छी तरह से व्यवस्थित किया और कई सॉनेट्स लिखे, इसलिए दांते को सॉनेट्स का पिता भी कहा जाता है। पैट्रॉक ने बाद में सॉनेट को और भी अधिक ठीक किया। दांते ने अपनी प्रेमिका बीट्राइस और पैट्रॉक ने अपनी प्रेमिका लौरा के लिए कई सारी सॉनेट लिखे।

Sonnet Definition In English
The word sonnet is derived from the Italian word Sonneto, which means little stress. A sonnet is a form of poetry that was sung to express love. By the 13th century, the sonnet was a poem of 14 lines. Petrarchan Sonnet is also known as Italian Sonnet. The Petrarchan or Italian Sonnet consists of two parts, the first part of the sonnet is the Octave (8 lines), while the second part is the Sestet (6 lines), so the original sonnet has a total of 14 lines.
The rhyming scheme for Octave in the poem is abbaabba and the rhyming scheme for Sestet is cdecde or cdcdcd. William Shakespeare’s sonnets have fourteen lines divided into three quatrains and a final rhyming couplet. Its rhyming scheme is abbcdedefefgg.
Origin Of Sonnet
No precise information is available regarding the origin of the sonnet. The sonnet is primarily related to the famous Italian poet Petrarch. In the 13th century, the sonnet was invented by the famous poet notary Giacomo da Lentini at the court of the Roman Emperor Frederick II of Sicily. The names of Dante Alighieri and Petrarch are also found in other poets of the 13th century. Dante Alighieri arranged sonnets well and wrote many sonnets, so Dante is also called the father of sonnets. Petrarch later corrected the sonnet even more. Dante wrote several sonnets for his girlfriend Beatrice and Petrarch for his girlfriend Laura.
